Missions: We serve MISSIONaLLY throughout the year in many areas. We can do so in our, neighborhoods, communities, our city, our state, and beyond. GO and tell (Matthew 28), tell everyone about Jesus Christ our Lord, our Savior, our Redeemer! It starts at home and extends throughout the world to reach the lost! We are all partakers in The “Great Commission” as born-again Christians!

Ministry Opportunities: looking forward to november, it is shaping up to have many ministry opportunities! be praying about our mimistries and missions! we have many ministries in need, and of leaders and volunteers, including Children and Youth, Senior citizens, welcome center, lawn mowing, ushers, women’s fellowship, men’s fellowship, and more. In serving, we help in many ways. In doing so, it helps us. It helps us grow personally and spiritually as the Holy Spirit teaches and guides us.

Dear friends,

we had a fantastic october with many opportunities to be out in the community and to share the gospel. join us Sunday, november 8, as we continue the mission, for worship and fellowship, and on wednesday for evening study, and our youth and children programs. we have classes available for all age groups and nursery is provided. there is no better place on earth to be than with a group of fellow believers, the body of christ, in fellowship and worship. come expecting a blessing, and renewal, as we share the gospel, sing praises, and send up prayers to the lord.

We continue our study in the book of james that will extend through december. james is a very interesting book that dives deep into the doctrine of "faith" and "works". James gets right to the point as he sends out this letter, as a circular letter for the region, reaching christians in jerusalem and those that have scattered due to persecution. we can read this letter as if he has sent it directly to us today, and all the truths and applications are still very valid today. his work is an extension of the gospel and is less of a theological work as much as it is practical. very practical and to the point commands that we can apply today as christians.

Come join us in worship as we study the book of james. it answers very many questions for the lost, new believers, and even mature believers, who may have misunderstandings of the role of christians today. the message this week covers chapter 2, verses 14-19. in short summary it tells us how faith loves, and our faith should be reflected through our lives as we live and serve the lord. It gives us a great application to help us actively be involved in sharing the gospel. come study with us, and learn with us, as the holy spirit guides and teaches us.

POINTS TO PONDER…

DEVOTION: A PROBLEM WITH AN ANSWER!

LET’S LOOK AT A SIMPLE 3 LETTER WORD THAT CAUSES A BIG PROBLEM BETWEEN US AND GOD. IT IS A NOUN IN IT’S 3 LETTER FORM, BUT CAN ALSO BE A VERB, AN ACTION WORD BECAUSE IT CAUSES ALL KINDS OF ISSUES THAT ARE NOT GOOD WHEN WE ACT ON IT. I BET YOU HAVE ALREADY GUESSED IT. YES, IT IS SIN, AND THE ACTION WORD IS SINNED! LET’S LOOK AT THE DEFINITION FOR SIN IN THE MERRIAM-WEBSTER DICTIONARY: SIN: 1. AN OFFENCE AGAINST A RELIGIOUS OR MORAL LAW. 2. AN ACTION THAT IS OR IS THOUGHT TO BE HIGHLY REPREHENSIBLE. 3. A STATE OF HUMAN NATURE THAT SELF IS ESTRANGED FROM GOD. SINNED: TO COMMIT AN OFFENCE OR A FAULT. NOW LET’S LOOK AT THE DEFINITION OF SIN FROM THE BIBLE: JAMES 4:17 (17 REMEMBER, IT IS SIN TO KNOW WHAT YOU OUGHT TO DO AND THEN NOT DO IT.) ADAM AND EVE KNEW BETTER BECAUSE GOD GAVE THEM A FREE WILL TO CHOOSE, BUT WITH A LITTLE URGING FROM SATAN THE DECEIVER, AND HIM WORKING THROUGH THE SERPENT, TWISTING GOD’S WORD THEY WENT AHEAD AND ATE OF THE FRUIT OF THE ONE TREE GOD TOLD THEM NOT TO. BECAUSE IT WAS PLEASING TO THE EYE. THAT GETS A LOT OF US DOESN’T IT! THAT DISOBEDIENCE STARTED THE SEPARATION OF MANKIND FROM GOD, PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL DEATH, AND THE BEGINNING OF THE CURSE OF SIN ON THE PHYSICAL ELEMENTS OF THE EARTH AS WELL. WE ARE ALL BORN IN A SINFUL STATE. ROMANS 5:12 (12 WHEN ADAM SINNED, SIN ENTERED THE WORLD. ADAM’S SIN BROUGHT DEATH, SO DEATH SPREAD TO EVERYONE, FOR EVERYONE SINNED.) THAT MEANS WE ARE ALL BORN IN A SINFUL CONDITION IN THIS LIFE. EVERYONE AS FAR BACK AS THE FIRST MAN AND WOMAN. SIN SEPARATES US FROM OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, THE CREATOR OF ALL, THE ONE TRUE GOD WHO LOVES US BUT HE CANNOT LOOK UPON SIN. THERE IS AN EMPTINESS IN US WITHOUT GOD IN OUR LIFE. WE TEND TO LOOK FOR HAPPINESS IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES AND WAYS. BUT, GOD IN HIS MERCY AND GRACE GAVE US A MIRACULOUS WAY BACK TO HIM. AND THE FORGIVENESS OF OUR SINS BY THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST HIS ONLY SON. JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE. HE GIVES US SPIRITUAL LIFE. EVEN THOUGH WE RECEIVE SALVATION AND FORGIVENESS THROUGH JESUS, UNTIL WE ARE FULLY CHANGED WHEN JESUS COMES BACK TO RECEIVE HIS OWN ONE DAY, WE STILL HAVE THAT OLD SINFUL NATURE LIVING IN US. WE STILL HAVE THE TENDENCY TO DO WHAT WE WANT, THOUGH IT MAY NOT BE RIGHT OR GOOD FOR US, BECAUSE OF THAT FREE WILL GOD HAS GIVEN US AND OUR SINFUL NATURE. BUT GOD IS FAITHFUL IN HIS MERCY TO FORGIVE US WHEN WE FAIL AND WE ARE TRULY SORRY AND WE REPENT THROUGH PRAYER THROUGH JESUS OUR MEDIATOR WITH GOD.

THE APOSTLE PAUL SHARED THIS WITH US ABOUT HIS AND OUR CONDITIONS IN THESE MORTAL BODIES: ROMANS 7:14-25 (14 SO THE TROUBLE IS NOT WITH THE LAW, FOR IT IS SPIRITUAL AND GOOD. THE TROUBLE IS WITH ME, FOR I AM ALL TOO HUMAN, A SLAVE TO SIN. 15 I DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND MYSELF, FOR I WANT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, BUT I DON’T DO IT. INSTEAD, I DO WHAT I HATE. 16 BUT IF I KNOW THAT WHAT I AM DOING IS WRONG, THIS SHOWS THAT I AGREE THAT THE LAW IS GOOD. 17 SO I AM NOT THE ONE DOING WRONG; IT IS SIN LIVING IN ME THAT DOES IT. 18 AND I KNOW THAT NOTHING GOOD LIVES IN ME, THAT IS, IN MY SINFUL NATURE.[A] I WANT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, BUT I CAN’T. 19 I WANT TO DO WHAT IS GOOD, BUT I DON’T. I DON’T WANT TO DO WHAT IS WRONG, BUT I DO IT ANYWAY. 20 BUT IF I DO WHAT I DON’T WANT TO DO, I AM NOT REALLY THE ONE DOING WRONG; IT IS SIN LIVING IN ME THAT DOES IT. 21 I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS PRINCIPLE OF LIFE—THAT WHEN I WANT TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT, I INEVITABLY DO WHAT IS WRONG. 22 I LOVE GOD’S LAW WITH ALL MY HEART. 23 BUT THERE IS ANOTHER POWER[B] WITHIN ME THAT IS AT WAR WITH MY MIND. THIS POWER MAKES ME A SLAVE TO THE SIN THAT IS STILL WITHIN ME. 24 OH, WHAT A MISERABLE PERSON I AM! WHO WILL FREE ME FROM THIS LIFE THAT IS DOMINATED BY SIN AND DEATH? 25 THANK GOD! THE ANSWER IS IN JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. SO, YOU SEE HOW IT IS: IN MY MIND I REALLY WANT TO OBEY GOD’S LAW, BUT BECAUSE OF MY SINFUL NATURE I AM A SLAVE TO SIN.)

IF WE BELIEVE IN AND FOLLOW JESUS, THE HOLY SPIRIT, HE PROMISED WOULD BE IN US WILL HELP US CONQUER SIN IN OUR LIVES. I KNOW HE HELPS ME EVERY DAY, BUT I STILL FAIL. IT’S A BATTLE BUT WE CAN WIN IF WE LISTEN TO HIM. THE BIBLE SAYS TO RESIST THE TEMPTATIONS OF THE DEVIL AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU. SIN IS SOMETHING WE ALL STRUGGLE WITH AND DO, BUT IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN, JESUS WILL HELP YOU OVERCOME IT. HE BORE FORGIVENESS FOR US ALL ON THE CROSS FOR ALL OF US. PHILLIPIANS 4:13 (13 FOR I CAN DO EVERYTHING THROUGH CHRIST,[A] WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH.) THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD OF JESUS! YES, FOR YOU!

AN AMAZING INTERVENTION

SOUTHERN GOSPEL SONGWRITER PHIL CROSS WROTE A SONG CALLED “THERE’S A MIRACLE IN ME” THERE WAS A LADY THAT WAS PREGNANT AND WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND THE DOCTOR TOLD HER THE CHILD WOULD NOT DEVELOP OR BECOME A WELL-FUNCTIONING PERSON IF IT WAS BORN. HE DISCUSSED ALL THE OPTIONS AND EVEN SUGGESTED ABORTION. THE LADY WAS OF COURSE DISTRAUGHT AND LEFT THE DOCTORS OFFICE AND WENT TO HERE CAR. SHE FOR SOME REASON SWITCHED ON THE RADIO IN HER CAR AND IT WAS ON A GOSPEL MUSIC STATION AND THE SONG PHIL CROSS HAS WRITTEN WAS PLAYING TITLED “THERE’S A MIRACLE IN ME”. SHE WAS PRAYING AND DECIDED AT THAT MOMENT TO HAVE THAT BABY NO MATTER WHAT THE DOCTOR OR ANYONE ELSE SAID.

THE BABY WAS BORN, WITHOUT PROBLEMS AND LATER WHEN HE HAD GROWN BECAME AMAZINGLY A NAVY SEAL IN THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES. DON’T TELL ME THAT GOD PERFORMS MIRACLES OR INTERVENES IN OUR LIVES. THIS LADY CAME TO PHIL CROSS MANY YEARS LATER WHILE ATTENDING A CONCERT AND TOLD HIM THIS STORY OF HER SON. HE HAD GROWN INTO A CARING MAN WHO CAME TO PROTECT US AND THE VERY DOCTOR THAT WANTED TO TAKE HIS LIFE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, PHIL CROSS WAS HUMBLED AND THANKFUL TO GOD FOR THAT SONG. THE POWER OF A SPIRIT FILLED GOSPEL SONG CHANGED THE COURSE OF A LIFE FOR SOMETHING GREATER. GOD LIKES TO WORK WHEN NOTHING ELSE WILL. THANK GOD FOR GODLY GOSPEL SONGWRITERS. I HEARD THIS ABSOLUTELY TRUE STORY A FEW WEEKS AGO IN AN INTERVIEW WITH PHIL CROSS AND THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE WITH YOU. TRULY AMAZING.

Prayer Requests

pray for elaine, let's pray for our deacon candidates, for our committee leaders, for our worship team. This week also we pray for missions. as many mission opportunities arise, for our Adult and Children ministry programs, pray that additional teachers will come forward for our children. Pray for carl and his daughter robin, for willard and saundra, for Joe and Yvette, and their family. for Kaitlin Woodruff, Neicy, Sandra and dewayne, Kenny and Kathy Schiwart and their family, Destiny Matthews, joe, Lonnie Cox. Join us in prayer for Calvary and our community as we take part in the Great Commission of sharing Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs to hear it.
